2014 American Advertising Awards Winners

DC Ad Club hosted the American Advertising Awards-DC gala on Tuesday, March 18, and presented its 2014 ADDY® Awards, recognizing advertising creative excellence. This annual reception and awards presentation was attended by about 400 area advertising and media professionals.

The DC Ad Club received 647 entries from 87 agencies, design firms, in-house marketing departments, freelancers, interactive firms, production companies, PR firms, and students. A panel of 8 judges—general market and interactive—was convened to review and score the entries based on creativity, originality and creative strategy. Winning entries were honored with a total of 69 Gold ADDY® Awards, 73 Silver ADDY® Awards, and 4 Student ADDY® Awards, along with Best of Category, Best in Public Service, Special Judges Awards, and Best of Show Awards.

Best of Show and the Special Judges Awards are determined by a consensus of the judges. Best of Category awards are given to the entries receiving the highest score in each category.

The evening's top award, Best of Show, went to Design Army for "STAR WARS: Rebel Jedi Princess Queen," a sales kit done for the Smithsonian Institution. The piece was also awarded Best of Category-Collateral.

A Special Judges Award was presented to Rosetta Stone for “180 Days—A Language Learning Challenge,” a branded content video.

The Best of Public Service Award was given to Viget for the “96 Elephants” website done for the Wildlife Conservation Society. Viget also received the Best of Category-Interactive Award for the website.

Best of Category-Print was awarded to August Lang & Husak for “Advocacy,” a consumer/trade publication ad, done for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Best of Category-Broadcast was presented to AKQA for the “TESO Trailer,” a movie trailer done for Bethesda Softworks.

RP3 Agency took home the most awards, with a total of 21 (8 Gold ADDY® Awards, 13 Silver ADDY® Awards). Other top awardees included RTC with 13 ADDY® Awards (7 Gold and 6 Silver); Design Army with 12 ADDY® Awards (1 Best of Show, 1 Best of Collateral, 9 Gold and 1 Silver) and SmithGifford with 12 ADDY® Awards (3 Gold and 9 Silver).

The American Advertising Awards Competition is a three-tiered national competition conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), its chapters, and districts. With 40,000 entries nationwide, the ADDY® Awards Competition is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition for creative excellence. Winners from the DC Ad Club ADDY® Awards will go on to compete against other winning entries from District Two, which includes New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Washington, DC.
